What I Can’t Tell You

I’ve noted before, I tend to write bunches of fiction in first person and from both male and female points of view. This ‘I’ is not autobiographical of the author. I’m guessing there are some who might read this and see themselves or see someone they love.

What I Can’t Tell You

All that I cannot tell you would fill the stacks of the New York Public Library and all the alleyways nearby. Is that the same as the distance between us? You desire to know that restricted section of me, that place I would sooner reveal to my hated enemies under torture than to you under love and lust combined. The telling would break you, not because you are fragile but because you are strong in your foundations, established in your beliefs. Is it wrong that I prefer to preserve you than to preserve us, when but for your unrestrained curiosity I could preserve both? You will go to your grave grieving what I cannot tell you, though you should thank your lucky stars you never had to know.
