Kissing Challenge: Divinity Found in the Afternoon

Someone posted a kissing challenge and everyone wrote about the subject.I don’t remember writing this, as is unnervingly common for me, so I started to feel uncomfortable when I began reading. See it through to my resolve.

I don’t have littles anymore. Or at least not this little. I think this must have been focused on Third, as he was the only toddler in 2011.

Kissing Challenge: Divinity Found In The Afternoon

Only moments ago we each were screaming, railing against ourselves, each other, and the world at large. My vision obscured by a consuming desire for you to leave me, I take small and controlled breaths, trying desperately not to rouse your wrath.

I fear you’ll never stop watching me, you’ll writhe in less-than consciousness, you’ll throw something at the speed of light. And still I will you onward, ever deeper into the midday dark.

As butter melts in an iron skillet, so you melt into an iron-clad tranquility; my shoulders loosen, my breath fills me with regret, my heart softens despite itself.

I creep to you and press my lips against your unlined forehead and find difficulty in leaving your small, napping, contented toddlerness for the housework and writing and resting and lunching that had so pressed against my every nerve, urging me to offload you into dreams, convincing me of a need so callous, a long and quiet break away.
